The Moving Experience

Yet again it has been some time since I have last written. I am hoping to get better at writing more frequently. I got my keys on a Tuesday morning and the chaos of moving basically began then. I wanted to touch up paint, clean and move all my stuff from the current house I was living in to my NEW home. At the same time I had a bunch of appointments at the house to set up cable, an alarm system, waiting for the Semi-truck to show up with all my stuff from Cali, etc. Originally, I was not going to get an alarm system in my house, but my dad really wanted me to get one for my safety. With this said, I got one installed and to be honest a sense of peace came over me. I set the alarm whenever I am home for the night or sleeping during the day. By now all my neighbors know that  I am a single girl living in the house by myself with a girl roommate. Safety first.

After working for two days cleaning, touching up paint and moving all my scrapbooking goods, clothes and stuff to the house, I was off to the airport to pick up my mom, Jon and his girlfriend Jenny. It was late Wednesday night when they came in and I parked my truck out in the loading area and walked inside. After getting them and their bags we proceeded to my truck. Jon was shocked that I could park my car on the curb and wait for them inside. I told him welcome to Tyler, Texas!!  It’s a little town with a little airport where we can park and leave our car at the curb. That first night we stayed at the Runyan’s home because my beds were packed in the truck we were to unload that next day.

My poke-a-dot walls, the coloring was slightly off but thanks to Bryan  and Tanya, we found the right one!!
The next morning we were up early, grabbed some breakfast and coffee then proceeded to the house to start the fun of unloading the truck and start organizing the house. Oh the joys of moving!  My pastor, Dave, and a bunch of my new church family were at the house at nine am to help us unload the truck. Having all the help really sped up the unloading process. So thankful for my church family out here!

Oh Garage, you need a little TLC.

Mom, Heath, Tanya and Stevie discussing how many dishes I have.

As usual with all “parties” I like to feed people and had a bunch of Subway sandwiches and bags of chips for all my wonderful helpers for lunch.  After lunch some of the helpers went on there way and left me and the family to organize the kitchen. While unpacking the kitchen all my friends kept saying that I was not allowed to buy any more dishes, because the final count was seven sets of dishes. Now for those who don’t know, collecting dishes runs in our family, my grandma had sixteen sets of dishes.  And I am almost half way to her at the age of twenty-six. I guess you can say there are worse addictions but still seven is a lot, but I love them all. I have been banned by my friends out here to buy any dishes.
Jon was fixing minor complications  some of the furniture got during the move. He also worked around the house and decided what he needed to complete all the projects I had for him. Jenny ran errands for me; ran to home depot with a list of what Jon needed and my debit card. For those who have bought a house or even a large expense you may understand my panic when we just kept buying things and all I kept seeing was dollar signs. I was a little stressed at times.

In the midst of buying things for the house, I did my best to be a tourist for my brother and his girlfriend. Mom originally drove me out so she got to a little tour back in October. I took them to a couple famous BBQ places, went skeet shooting (let me just add: Jon rocked at it, must have been all the dove hunting he did as a child) a few fun events through my church and of course antique shopping.

Love this sport!

The week was a blast having my family to help set up my new place. I could not have done all the work by myself yet alone all the work my brother did. He ran all my stereo wires and power cords to my TV. He drilled my hose holder into the side of my house and many more Big brother activities. I am so thankful for him and all his help, I couldn’t have done it without him.

So blessed and thankful for my Big Brother

Time is just flying by and next thing I realized I needed to cut my grass. Originally the previous owners left me their gardner’s number. After multiple attempts to get a hold of them, I just went to Lowe’s called my dad and bought myself a lawn mower, a weed eater and a blower. I assembled my weed eater, blower and lawn mower and got the task done yesterday when I got off work. What a work out. Keep in mind when looking at the pictures I don’t have a huge backyard and even front yard but it’s a little bigger than I thought when I was grooming the yard. But I felt accomplished after I was finished and learned that I will not let the grass grow that long ever again!

My hard trimmings

There are still tons of organizing that needs to be done between the garage and the craft room, but in time I hope to have it all tidy and put together. There is a new sense of joy going to work knowing I am working towards the beautiful home I own. I am excited for more friends and family to come out and visit. I have a room waiting for anyone who would love to visit me!
